Ronnie and Courtney Mundy take the WIN on Toledo Bend Reservoir!!!
C.A.S.T. Southeast started their third tournament of the season on March 29, 2008 on beautiful Toledo Bend Reservoir out of Alpine Marina. Manfred and Many greeted C.A.S.T. Southeast with open doors and great lodging. C.A.S.T. Southeast utilized Alpine Marina's banquet room for registration which allowed anglers to stay dry before takeoff.
Twenty eight teams left Alpine Marina and were greeted with overcast skies and rain. C.A.S.T. anglers had patterns from bed fishing, targeting inside grass lines, outside grass lines, and even Carolina rigging on deep humps.
Many of our C.A.S.T. anglers utilized their Just Keepers weigh in bag from www.duncanbags.com to bring their hefty fish to the scales.
Ronnie and Courtney Mundy, no stranger to winning, took their SKEETER bass boat north of the Pendleton Bridge to Patroon Bay where they were greeted with twenty other boats fishing the same area. After looking around, Ronnie told Courtney that "everyone seems to be fishing deep grass lines." Most of the boats around the area were fishing 4 to 10 foot depths. Ronnie decided to head to the bank and targeted outside edge of the bushes and inside grass lines. They mainly fished depths in the 1 to 3 foot range. Ronnie used his trusty SUPER FLUKE and spinnerbait to catch a five fish winning limit of 16.76 pounds.
Second place stringer was brought in by Larry and Joyce Coleman with a weight of 15.36 pounds. Larry and Joyce targeted deeper water just south of the Pendleton Bridge. Their go to bait was a Carolina Rig which they utilized trick worms and centipedes to help them catch their limit. Larry and Joyce are no stranger lately to having mechanical boat issues. Larry and Joyce had to utilize a drift sock since their trolling motor decided to quit on them on tournament day. Last month brought them a hole in their boat where they found a GORILLA HULL was the answer by Toledo Bend Fiberglass. Congratulations to the two anglers for overcoming the obstacles of fishing.
Third place stringer and BIG BASS were brought in by the great duo of Nick and Sharon Albus. Nick and Sharon fished Mid Lake areas and utilized soft plastics all day to anchor their 15.19 pound weight. Their go to baits were pumpkin wacky worms and green Texas rigged worms. BIG BASS honors from the team go to Sharon Albus who was working her Texas rigged worm through grass and stumps. She was working her worm when all of a sudden she said she felt like she hit a stump. Sharon started to work the rod back and forth to loosen her bait from the stump and with a couple of pulls she realized she was hung up. Sharon asked Nick to turn around so she could get unhung and when Nick turned around Sharon’s bait was going sideways. Nick told Sharon to "SET THE HOOK" and when she did Sharon found on the end of her line a 6.14 pound Toledo Bend big bass. Congratulations to Sharon on her big catch.
